Over the summer, China and the United States pursued a long-standing trade and technology war. On July 3, Beijing introduced an export visa for gallium and germanium, two so-called “rare earths” used to manufacture strategic equipment such as weapons, semiconductors, and 5G to safeguard national interests and security.
