CHICO — Monday morning we received an email from a reader with an attached message from someone pretending to be with the United States Social Security Administration telling them that their SSI number was to be suspended for 24 hours due to fraudulent activity.
What is somewhat disturbing about the message is just how real it looks at first glance. It has the administration’s email at the top along with the date and even a case ID number. The reader had already figured out that it was likely a scam but forwarded it to us to take a second look.
