Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently marked the 50-year anniversary of the end of the U.S. military draft during a swearing-in ceremony at Maryland’s Fort Meade.

The Selective Service System reports that more than 16 million men were drafted into military service in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
