Longtime Maryland U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin will not seek re-election

First elected to the Senate in 2006 after a distinguished career in state and federal politics, Maryland U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin will not seek re-election next year, his office told 11 News Monday morning.

Before succeeding Sen. Paul Sarbanes, the 79-year-old Democrat represented the 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House for 20 years.
